Why you should stop saying every one else does it if you're a Christian?

Mostly, we are told that some widely accepted practice must be good because all those people who are doing it can’t be wrong. Young Christian sometimes tell their guardians, “all my friends are doing it!” with the intention to suit the world. The question we should ask ourselves is, “should we do it because everyone else does it?”. Is the voice of God the voice of the majority? Or should we democratize religious doctrines and believes to outfit the majority’s needs because our government leads us to think the majority is right? In Isaiah Bibles says:

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:8-9

From the verse above, it is clear that God does not think like men think, even if all the men of the world gathered up to think a practice is good, that does not necessarily prove God thinks it is good. The ways of God cannot be determined from people’s perception, but it is revealed in is words. In (2 Timothy 3: 16-17, KJV) the bible says “all scriptures are given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” This is because the ways of God are prescribed in the Bible to direct your decisions and show you the way of God. Thus, it’s not necessarily what the bishop says, what a prophet says, what the government says but everything to be compared to the word of God. If it’s not the word of God then it is not the will of God, even if it carries the highest rank of moral value or it is ethically right that doesn’t justify it to be right.

God is not the author of confusion to say something today and change tomorrow (1 Corinthians 14:33), any twisted gospel or doctrine that any preacher or leader can come up with is not inspired by God.

Things you should remember:

1 The majority is not always correct

If you’re fond of the Bible stories you might have come across the story of Noah’s. In his days God sent His words to people, revealing His plans to destroy the world to them through Noah and asking them to enter the boat before His wrath came to the world. But in that time, the majority refused to follow the way of God and called it foolishness. When the appointed time of destruction came, they were all flooded and destroyed by heavy rains, and only eight people were saved (Genesis 6:5-8). Was the majority, right?

Probably you come across the story of prophet Elijah who stood alone facing 450 prophets of Baal in proving a true God. Was the majority right then?

Should we agree regarding those people who crucified Jesus, that all those people can’t be wrong? No.

Majority of the people since ancient history it has never been correct in religious context because the mysteries of God are known by minority and the devil blind many to not see the truth of God. Thereby, making the majority of people to miss the right path.

2 Know the word of God for yourself

The kingdom of God is individual and each person is required to make every effort to enter into the narrow gate. The bible says in (Matthew 7:13-14, KJV) “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” If its few who find it and does an effort to enter through the narrow gate, then it should be your obligation to know the word for yourself because many are lost through the teachers of religious philosophy and human doctrines. Thus, the bible recommends that “you see to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principle of the world, rather than according to Christ” (Colossians 2:8). The only way you could see to it and not be enslaved by the will of the majority of people in this world is by knowing the teaching of God for yourself.

Do not wait for anyone to show you the holy scriptures, seek God in His words for yourself and he shall reveal the truth to you.

3 God punishes the wicked

God is not a respecter of a person (Romans 2:11, KJV), when people do not obey His ways and teach, even if they constitute the majority of the world, He will destroy them. He has done it before, in the time of Noah, in Sodom and Gomora, and nothing can stop Him from doing it again. He only does favor the few that obey His ways. Thus, we shouldn’t follow the majority of the people in a wrong practice because the wrath of God descends upon the evil doers.

The only way you can escape the wrath of God in this world is by obeying and following God’s ways.

4 God ways are the final

Do you have to compromise your standard because everyone else does it? No. The bible recommends that we do not get conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by renewing our minds. Thereby, being able to test and approve what is good and acceptable to God (Romans 12:2). The ways of God should be the final indicators of each believer who await the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and who keep faith in the rupture. We living in a perverted generation where people act corruptly and immoral but we have to stand as a lamp in the midst of darkness (Philippians 2: 15) and the Lord Jesus Christ is the source of our light.

Who guides you in your Christian journey?

Could you please pause for a minute, and kindly ask yourself who guides you in your Christian journey? How do you approach them? And what is the mode of communication? Is the mode of communication that you use spiritual or carnal?

You might have noticed through our lives, in every day, week, month, and year we are always in need of guidance. We tend constantly coming to the crossroads needing to know which way to turn. This is because our thinking is limited, our eyes cannot see beyond the horizons and we do not know tomorrow. Mostly our judgments are based on past experiences and the atmospheric condition of the current situations we are facing, and it turns out that we’re always prompted to errors. Thus, we pause to ask can we be guided rightly and be sure of making the right decisions? I would say yes! Because the holy scriptures say:

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.

Psalm 32:8, NKJV

This sentence, which is the Lord’s promise to us, assures us of His readiness and willingness to guide our lives. The scriptures say and if you notice: God says, “I will instruct and teach you…”, and this is a promise to every one of His children. If we can think about it for a moment you will realize that the scripture tells us three things:

  1. God can guide you: The lord is omnipresent, omniscient, He is the great and mighty God. Therefore, He is well able to guide you with His counsel (Psalm 73:24). If you are wondering about buying a house, getting married, choosing a career, emigrating… The Lord is well able to guide you to make the right decision.
  2. God is willing to guide you: The scripture above shows us that the Lord is willing to be involved in your life. Because it would be possible for God to be able to guide you but to be unwilling to do so; nevertheless, He wants to be part of your everyday life. If not so He wouldn’t have promised to instruct and teach you the right way. He expects you to acknowledge and lean on Him for guidance. (Proverb 3: 5-6). You may be facing a big decision concerning the future of your home life, or the re-arrangement of your business. The Lord is able and willing to show you the way, all you need is to seek is guidance and not lean on your ways.
  3. God is eager to guide you: He is not only offering you guidance but is longing to lead you. You may ask why? Because He has a perfect plan for you and He does not want you to make mistakes. (Jeremiah 29:11)

THE NATURE OF GOD’S GUIDANCE

The is something peculiar about the nature of God’s guidance that makes it different from the guidance the world offer. (Isaiah 55:8, NKJV) says “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways”. Let look at three things here:

  1. God guidance is divine: If you have already noticed, the Lord says His ways are not your ways, why because humans have a likeness of grass. All the glories of humans are like the flower of the grass. The grass withers and all its flowers fall away, but the word of the LORD endures forever (Read 1 Peter 1:24-25). Having learned that, how very wonderful this is, that God who is infallible and whose ways are perfect, He offers to guide you! He never makes mistakes never would He lead you in regrets; His wisdom is infinite and He never errors in His Judgment or in anything He does. This, by the way, teaches us that we must never question the fact of God’s guidance after we have received it.
  2. God guidance is practical: The last three words in (Psalm 32:8, NKJV) state “with my eye”, meaning that He is always watching over you, and in every phase of your life He wants and waits to guide you. His guidance is comprehensive and down-to-earth so that you get to learn and understand it. Therefore, does He guide you when you’re arranging a holiday, when you buy clothes, or when you want to visit a friend? Remember the is No area of your life excludes His guidance.
  3. God guidance is individual: Have you noticed the word ‘you’ in Psalm 32 vs 8, we have read. The Lord promises to guide and is ready, able, willing, and eager to guide everybody, but He wants to do that to you as an individual. He is offering you individual guidance which is peculiar to everybody because He has a perfect plan for you as an individual. Therefore, you can’t live to please people, nor do you have to imitate other people’s lives, nor putting to yourself burdens of following a man as a role model, Jesus Christ is the only real model for the church and you.

Receiving God’s Guidance

There certain conditions that a believer has to follow if they would like to know God’s guidance. The reason why God says He will guide you with His “eye” (NKJV). We know guidance is not automatic; God does not push you around indiscriminately. His eye is upon you, but you have to watch His eye to be guided by it. Imagine a master who looks towards his servant and with a look, a glance, or an expression is able to guide and direct the servant in the execution of his duties. What, then, are the conditions for receiving God’s guidance?

  1. There must be a watchful eye: If the Lord guides you by His eye, then you must watch His eye. How can you do that?
  2. By following carefully, the guidance He gives you through His WORD. In the Bible, God guides you through the very clear principles that are revealed there and through clear statements that we cannot fail to understand. For instance, He guides you about marriage (2 Corinthians 6:14); He guides you about questionable things (Romans 14: 1-17); He guides you about going to church (Hebrews 10: 15). And a lot of more instructions and teachings are found in the holy scriptures so that we know them, live by them and not be deceived by the world.

Anything that does not have a foundation in the Bible is not from God.

  1. By following carefully, the guidance He gives us by His Spirit. Jesus said in (John 14: 16 -18, NKJV) “I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever- the spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” You need to have the spirit of God in you, and abide by His guidance since He is there to help you access the divine counsel of God.  In short, to be guided by God’s spirit you will have to walk in the spirit. I will discuss the walk in the spirit another day, for now, you have to know that it is very vital for a Christian to live by the spirit.
  2. There must be a humble mind: You must recognize that you need guidance (Psalm 25:9), and to ask for guidance means to confess that you do not know the way, and that indicates a humble mind (Jeremiah 10: 23). The right attitude to the instruction and teachings of God is one thing you need to be directed by Him. Do you have the right attitude?
  3. There must be a surrendered will. It is a waste of time to watch His eye unless we are willing to go His way. We must not be impetuous like the horse or stubborn like the mule (Psalm 32:9); we must walk humbly before God, watching and waiting for Him to guide you and fully yielding yourself to Him, ready to do whatever He requires of you.

RELATIONSHIP ACCORDING TO THE KINGDOM OF GOD

I received a couple of questions from the Kingdom Impact Network to give my view on relationships. It is a small group of believers in which I also belong and it main objective is to share the gospel to every corner of the world via various media. Feel free to check the facebook page of the group and stay connected with us.

Below I share my mind on how I see the relationship from the bible studyings, feel free to comment if you agree or disagree to any of the statement or the commentary I have passed on this topic.

What is the relationship?

I would want to make it clear that I will only discuss this topic based on the Christianity point of view, the relationship between man and God, the relationship between man and himself; the relationship between one person to another. We live in the information age where the is much to say about everything, and almost the knowledge on anything is in our palm and we access it through the cell phone. We need to realize that what Hinduism, Islamic, or humanitarians believe about relationships would be quite different from how Christianity approaches the idea of relationships. Nevertheless, the general definition of relationship in all disciplines of life and religions would consider the connection between people or things in their description of the relationship.

Are there types & levels of relationship?

Subjected to correction, I think“types and levels” of relationship have similar characteristics and it seems to refer to the characteristics of bonds that connect people. I find it to be one idea that explains how people can be connected. There many levels or type of relationships, of course, that is according to world perspectives. Moreover, the bible does precisely tell us God’s will on the level of relationship a person could have.

The bible indicates that the first level of relationship a man should have is the relationship between them and God through Jesus Christ. Why?

  • Because God display the love that no one else can offer (John3:16)
  • Because God is the creator and the highest supreme being (Genesis 1: 27)
  • Because God is the safety, our refugee and strength (Psalm 18:10/46:1)
  • Because God is the ever-present help in time of need and trouble (Psalm 121:1-2)
  • Because God has the greater empathy and He wipes every tear’s (Revelation 21:4)

Jesus Christ is our friend according to the gospel of John 15: 13-15. We have to keep in mind that being in a relationship with God is the hope for eternal life.

The second level of relationship is that one has with themselves in relating to their soul, spirit, and flesh. This let me bring up the idea of self-esteem, as believers we need to have the confidence to be what God says we are. This helps us acknowledge that we do not depend on our ability but of God, Romans 12: 3, urges us not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought but think of ourselves according to the measure of faith God has given us. In the self-relationship type, one has high emotional intelligence to exercise more of self-awareness, self-motivation, self-regulation, and empathy. For biblical reference read about the will of God and the purpose for each believer (Eph 1:3; 2:10; Col 2:10-12; 1Tim 1:12-14; 1 Cor. 15:9-11)

The third level of relationship is between a man with people, this includes the relationship you have with fellow believers, spouse, friends, relatives, and acquaintances. I have to point out that the context of the third level of relationship can be subdivided to be elaborated independently. I nominate this as the third level in the ranks of relationship levels because it’s doesn’t precede the first two-level of relationship in terms of importance. I will not elaborate much on these because I want this post to be short, and we could discuss it at another time if God accords us an opportunity.

What are secretes to better any relationship?

Alike the world would give you tips to better a relationship, the bible gives the best endorsement to better a relationship. It would take me much space on this blog to elaborate in detail about the bible teaching on how to build and maintain a good relationship with God, oneself, and others, let it be a topic for another day. Nevertheless, imagine you are a gardener of flowers, in general, what are the basic things you will be constantly doing to keep your plant healthy? I believe you will be more concerned about the plants; you will treat the plants with patience and gentleness; you will water it regularly and keep weeding the garden, and you will prune the plant to facilitate its growth. The consistency of your commitment to the garden is what determines the success of the garden. The nature of the commitment a gardener has to its plant directly implies the requirement of a healthy relationship. One of the gears to consider to better a relationship is communication. The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing”, in other words, I could say the Bible recommends us to communicate with God without ceasing to better our relationship. The Bible talks of love and how to approach others with kindness, gentleness, patience, and tolerance to better a relationship. (Philippians 4:8; Ephesians 4:2; Colossians 3:9; 1 Peter 4:8). For me, the secrete of better relationship is to fear God, as the Proverb 9:10 says the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. This is the wisdom that could better a good relationship.

What is the most important of relationships and why?

The organs of the body will never function on the isolation of other organs because it wouldn’t manage to carry the functionality of other organs. Due to that, it works as a team or members of the body in supporting each other. That is the major importance of relationships, to provide support, guidance, and strengthen one another toward the common good which is eternal life.

INVICIBLE CHRISTIAN LIFE

In almost all the discipline of life that you know, whether in racing or any other competition that you have witnessed, there is always that trick or formula that if well followed you will get to obtain good results. The formula obviously guaranties better results and improvement in your professions and other parts of life. The formula is known by people who went ahead of you in the same field that you pursue, they did well by mastering the formula, obtained good results and recommended the formula to you who desire to obtain good results. And many who have followed the formula either in their studies, in the field of sport, and in engineering to mention just a few. They have never been disappointed, most of them become reliable people in their fields that all because they took the time to understand what I call the winning formula and observed it.

Alike the world disciplines that we know, Christianity has a recommended winning formula that believers are required to follow. The Lord Jesus Christ together with his disciples went ahead of us in living a godly accepted life. Don’t you think that they might have known the formula to overcome this world? Obvious yes! they do have a winning formula to overcome the world. In 1 Corinthians 16: 13-14 the bible says

“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. Let all that you do be done with love.”

NKJV

The verse above contains the winning formula for victorious living, a designed Christian life God has made possible, and yearn His children to live. This scripture tends to have military tone, it’s almost like a command given to soldiers when there about to go into the battlefield. Remember a Christian is a soldier (2 Timothy 2:3), who is intricate in terrifying warfare of not fresh and blood (Ephesian 6:12). However, you shouldn’t be afraid because we have a good captain (Hebrew 2: 10) who promises to accompany you in the war and never leave you alone (Mathew 28:20).

When you follow the scripture, we have read above carefully the bible mentions five things which I generally call the winning formula that makes a Christian life invincible. I am going to discuss each of them below.

How does the winning formula work?

1.      Watch – be sober and vigilant

The first thing Paul mentioned was watch, he intended to tell a Christian to be always on their guard, to keep awake and be vigilant. The bible demand that you stay alert all the time against your enemies. A believer has three enemies who never give up or get tired and these are the world, the flesh, and the devil. Unless you get on your guard and constantly keep doing the work of God we shall be overcome by these enemies.

i) The world is the enemy from without

The world is an enemy of every believer, and the bible says “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it, but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:15-17, NKJV). We humans get easily attracted by new things that the world offers or produces such as cloths on fashion, vehicles and many other advanced technologies. These things of the world are nothing more but distraction, it freezes the love of God in you. Jesus says “if you love Me, keep my commandments” (John 14: 15), the love of Father is to keep the commandment of the Father. Anything that leads you to disobey the commandment therefore it becomes your enemy since the world is passing away you will have to be watchful to not be dragged by it.

ii) The fresh is the enemy within

The heart of a human being is of evil, corrupted and nothing good comes out of it (Romans 7: 18). The fresh easily fall into its old nature, many have tried to fight anger, short temper, pride, irritability, and addiction on their own but fail because the flesh is weak. As a believer, the bible recommends that you walk by the spirit and not carry out the desire of the flesh of which it is against the spirit (Galatian 5: 16-17). And (Ephesians 5: 15-16) says “Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time because the days are evil”. It is on you to keep watching your body because it is your enemy, control your mind and especially what you feed it otherwise you could be defeated by yourself.

iii) The devil is the enemy around

The devil is very strong-minded to bring about our downfall, he doesn’t care about your resources, money or fame he wants your soul (1 Peter 5:8). But you do not have to be unaware of his schemes otherwise he will get the advantage of you (2 Corinthians 2:11). The bible says to submit yourself to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7). The scripture is clear in saying to defeat the devil you have to subjugate yourself to God by keeping His commandment, praying and fasting, and meditating upon His word’s day and night. That is how you could be watchful and overcome the devil.

2.      Stand fast in the faith

From my experience, the only battle that we have in this world is about belief. The indifferences in religious beliefs are what cause conflicts and result as the baseline of the spiritual wars which has a direct impact on the physical world. A good believer of Jesus Christ must always stick to the saint doctrines and not be movable in changing believes or doctrines to suit a situation nor a circumstance (1 Corinthians 15:58). A faithful follower shouldn’t be ashamed of the gospel of truth but diligently present themselves approved to God (2 Timothy 2:15). The aim of a serious follower of Jesus Christ should be to grow up in spiritual maturity and to be strong in the power of the Lord. This is only attained by constantly feeding upon the word of God (2 Timothy 3:15-17). You should keep in mind that Satan’s primary objective is to shatter your faith (Luke 22:31-32), but you should do all possible to stand firmly in faith and let your trust be in the Lord who will never leave you or forsake you (Hebrew 13: 5-6).

3.      Be brave – have courage

Bravery is to lack fear, a soldier of Jesus Christ shouldn’t be a coward like little children that can be easily intimidated. The fresh is fearful and the spirit is strong that is why you don’t have to be canal (1 Corinthians 3:1-4) but rise to attain the full stature of our manhood in Jesus Christ. Learn and seek to be more informed about God’s ways in that you will build personal courage.

4.      Be strong – do not lean on your own understanding

For a moment the bible suggests you do not have any strength of yourself, and incapable to face the world, the flesh and the devil (Ephesians 6: 10 – 17). The fact that you have been failing to live a Christian life its because you relied on yourself, but the scriptures say do not lean on your own understanding (Proverb 3: 5-6, NKJV). Why? Because the flesh is weak, and it can be easily deceived. To be strong is to rely on God, finding refugee in His sanctuary, wear the armor of the God, calling upon Him for help, and ask for His leadership (Deuteronomy 31:6; Isaiah 41:10; 1 Chronicles 16:11; 2 Timothy 1:7) Remember you can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4: 13).

5.      Let love regulate all that you do

Love is a token, a hallmark that distinguishes features of Christians to that of the pagans. The love of God is different from the love of the world read 1 Corinthians 13:1-7. The love of God demands you to follow the commandments (John 14: 15), doing everything not for yourself but for the Lord who will reward you abundantly.  The love of God requires you to have a love for all the Lord’s people regardless of their race, nationality, gender or economic status (John 13: 34-35). The Lord wants you to be a good Samaritan, a person who gives and help with an open heart without expecting anything in return.

This is the winning formula, applying it to your life makes you live a victorious life and guaranty you for eternal life. As I mentioned earlier on, all the formula gives good result when there are applied well and worked on with vigilance and care.

My brethren and sisters the Lord Jesus Christ will appear soon, therefore, be a good soldier has He desires.

What to consider when choosing a church?

Find some tips to why you have to be going to church and ways in which you could identify a good congregation.

As Christians, we find ourselves in situations where we have to choose a decent place to worship. We might have experienced it already in our lives. Maybe that time we shifted from our City to another City, or maybe when we recently began to have the desire to seek the Lord and we didn’t know where to start from. We might be confused with the fact that there are over a million different Christian churches in the world today while history says the is only one church of Jesus Christ which was established in the new testament. We can watch World Video Bible School, to understand why we have so many churches today when the Bible talks of a single church of Jesus Christ.

The main objective of this article is to help us with some tips to consider whenever we seek a place to worship. We cannot refuse to go to church because we think all the churches around us are denominations, or rationally conclude the is no perfect church today in the world, and forsake attending the church. We must remember that as Christ-followers we were called to obey the gospel, and Hebrew 10:25 (KJV) says that

this scripture recommends us not to stop attending the church services, but keep going for the edification of our souls. We have as an obligation to find a place of worship, as that we need to be certain that the place at which we choose to worship will lead us into being saved and prepare us for the second coming of Jesus Christ.

I have come up with a few points that could help us not get lost in seeking a place to worship, these tips have worked for me and the people around me. It’s good for these tips to be accompanied by prayers to engage the spirit of the Lord and get it involved in our desire to find a decent place of worship. I will discuss five of the points that I feel could enable us to distinguish between the church of Jesus Christ and the church of humans. These tips are not the only ones or the final point to consider out-there, the spirit of the lord can reveal some more to you, and it would be a blessing to us to have it shared with the world in the comments below.

Tips to consider when choosing a church?

  1. Eternal life

The first and the most important thing to why we choose Jesus Christ as our Lord and personal savior is eternal life. The Bible tells us that God loved the world and He gave us His son, for whoever believes in the son to not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16), and the new testament is full of quotes of Jesus Christ affirming that He is the way and life (John 5: 24/ 6:47/10: 28-30/11:25). Therefore, if we do go to church is to seek eternal life in believing in Jesus Christ’s teachings and obeying them. They shouldn’t be anything else be placed at the first position of His teachings, the church that doesn’t talk about Jesus Christ or doesn’t make it people to believe in Jesus more than anything (prophets, wealth, miracles, e.t.c…) is thereby not leading people to eternal life, it deceives the people and lead them to death. William Branham’s (1965) sermon on “Doors indoor“, illustrate that churches are doors that supposed to call people out of the world and lead them to a door that takes to eternal life. The door that takes to eternal life is Jesus Christ. A shocking scenario is to see the church losing its purpose, denominations are illusively imperfects the functions of the church. Anthony Smith (2006) state that in today’s world, many ministers and church members have lost their first love and have gone after strange spirits. The first love of the church is Jesus Christ, we Christian were called to love God with all our hearts, our soul and our minds (Mathew 22:37). But in today’s world, the church ceases to love God with its heart and soul rather tend to follow God with its minds. Denominations twist Jesus’ teachings to satisfy their lust of fresh, and ego, it has turned the church into an entertainment ground, a business place, a fashion show, and an organization. Thereby, forgetting to teach and live the saint doctrine which gives life. If you’re a serious believer or you desire to be one, by now you should be able to distinguish between the churches that prepare it members for eternal life and those that act as a stumbling block of the people to not get into eternal life.

Always ask yourself, if the church you wish to congregate with talks about Jesus as the savior, believes all of His teachings, obey His word and hope for eternal life through Him? From there, you can tell whether the same church prepares its members for eternal life or not.

2. Growth

The Bible tells us when we believed we were like little children who relied on fragile foods and we are expected to grow from infancy to maturity (Hebrews 6:1). A church shouldn’t only base its doctrine on basic elementary of gospel-like the foundation of repentance from behaviors that leads to death, and of faith in God. But seek to establish a doctrine of maturity. You may have noticed that we have congregations that base their teachings in prayers alone and fighting off demons, others hold doctrines that do not lead to growth in Christ, and many choose to teach only half of the truth and forsake the rest. However, the Bible demands the church to teach the all truth without living anything behind for people to attain maturity (2 Corinthians 13: 10-12). The church should be in its knees praying for its members to grow in knowledge, understanding, wisdom and bearing the fruit of good works (Colossians 1:9-10). The church should continue to teach people to live their life in Christ, based on the faith and the call they received (Colossians 2:6 -2). The church should spiritually help its members know how to distinguish between good and evil (Hebrews 5: 12-14).  If a church does not lead people to growth then it is not a church of Christ. Spiritual growth does come upon having faith, and the Bible says faith comes by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17). The church of Christ will teach the word of God to lead its members to attain faith in Jesus Christ and become mature in the knowledge of God.
Always ask yourself, what kind of doctrine does the church you desire to congregate with teach? Do the teachings lead to spiritual growth? Are the icons of the church showing the maturity regarding the teachings they received? If not, seek somewhere else and do not waste your time in empty worships.

3. Information

Every church of Jesus Christ must be informative, they should inform people about the time we live in following the Biblical calendar. The Bible tells us about the watchman who has to attentively listen to the word of God and warn the people of God (Ezekiel 3:17). The church ministers have a mandatory like that of a watchman and warn the church of God in preparing the church for the second coming of Christ. The church should be a place of correction and not a dormancy house that does not care about the lifestyle of its people. The church of Christ will keep informing people and challenging their lifestyles. If you join a church that doesn’t challenge your moral values concerning the saint doctrine that wouldn’t be a church of Christ, and if they don’t inform you about the coming of Christ, then it’s a dead pool, leave it and seek another place to worship.

Always ask yourself, what kind of information does the church provide? Does the information challenge you in preparing your life for the second coming of Christ?

4. Direction

The church of Christ should be able to provide you with mentorship, and not cause confusion. The church of Christ will direct your life with God’s words and prayers, and not use human ways to help you solve your problems. If you see a church that takes people to police, involved in politics or using other spiritual mediators ( Note that the is only one mediator between human and God) to solve problems then it should be clear that the congregation is not of Christ but a denomination of humans found on men’s reasoning and leading people to a dead pool.

Ask yourself, Could that congregation you wish to worship with assist you settle down your problem in Christ’s manner?

5. Home

A church should be a place to call home, a family of the saint and God-fearing people. The church should be like an oasis of hope in a desert of hopelessness. It should be a pillar of strength for the weak and a home for everyone.
Ask yourself, Do you feel yourself at home when you congregate with them? If not why?

Note some denominations might portray some of the points sited here. But a church of God will present you with all and possibly with some more traits that will tailor your life for Jesus Christ.

These are not the only points that could help in choosing a church to worship, I pray the spirit of God to assist you in choosing a better place to worship. The world would not deceive us because the scripture says we shall know them by their fruits (Mathew 7:15-20). Knowing a better place of worship raise your chances of understanding God’s ways, prepare your life and inherit the Kingdom of God. A bad congregation will lead you into the destruction of your soul and everlasting death, that is why I consider the choice of choosing a church as a personal duty.
